  This affects not only adults, but also children. Children who grow up in a family that lives in poverty are more likely to experience stress or problems at home. In these families there is often insufficient money to provide full care for the children to participate in education and in social life.
  Part of that approach is facilitating equal opportunities for children, by ensuring that they can participate fully at school and in social life. Participating contributes to children's health, their self-confidence and social skills. Facilitating a full place at school and in social life can also break generational poverty. That is why the municipality of Maastricht wants supporting children (4 to 18 years) from families living in poverty with school supplies and contributions to social activities.
