Since January 1, 2022, municipalities have to deal with the 2021 Integration Act. Municipalities have a directing role with regard to the implementation of this law. The starting point is that everyone can participate in our society as quickly as possible, preferably through paid work. Status holdersare offered a timely and appropriate integration process in which learning the language is combined with participation. The municipality of Maastricht performs this task (integration) for the municipalities: Gulpen-Wittem, Meerssen, Valkenburg, Vaals and Maastricht. The municipality of Eijsden-Margraten is conducting thisTask (integration) itself for status holders linked to this municipality. Every municipality carries out the social guidance assignment. The municipality of Maastricht is only a leader in this tender. This tender has emerged from a regional cooperation.
