- Surf transports scientific data, privacy -sensitive data and data that are essential for the functioning of its members. In addition, SURF supports researchers with new technical possibilities that improve research. Quantum is one of the technological areas that has been established to be relevant to SURF and its members. Quantum safety has therefore become a subject of research. SURF has implemented this study in the Dutch European Euroqci Project Qcined in which SURF is researching encryption using cryptographic key generation based on Quantum Key Distribution, hereinafter referred to as QKD, because this can offer information against quantum computers in the long term. A pointtopoint QKD system is required for the Dutch European Euroqci project Qcined Surf. This system will be used as a proof of concept in a development network.
