  • Tenders are invited for Optical Transmit/Receive Paths Isolation for Very High Throughput Optical Communication Terminals (Artes 4.0 Sl Spl 5g.044) The objective of the activity is to develop an engineering model of an optical isolation system (filter) capable of providing ultra-high isolation between the optical transmit and receive paths of a space optical communication terminal dedicated to very high throughput links Targeted Improvements:Enabling wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) in terabit per second optical communication systems by reducing the spectral separation bandwidth between transmitter and receiver by 75%. Description:Very highthroughput optical communication systems rely on the use of WDM to reach an overall capacity on the order of terabits per second (Tbps). The spectral bandwidths of the optical C-band and L-band used in optical communication systems are limited and require a separation (guard-) band between transmission (Tx) and reception (Rx) bands to avoid spill over and crosstalk. The guard band reduces the available spectral resources significantly as it can occupy as much as 20nm. This activity will develop a spectral filtering technique that is polarisation agnostic and ensures the required isolation (at least 100 dB) between the spectral Tx and Rx bands. Furthermore, it shall reduce the spectral guard band to 5 nm of the available spectrum
