  • Description:
  • Tenders are invited for NAVISP-EL1-079 Reduced Size Antenna for Earth Pulsar Navigation - Expro+ (Reissue) Pulsars are rapidly rotating neutron stars emitting beams of radiation periodically, some with very high stability, emitting in allthe spectrum (infrared, visible, RF, X-ray). Since every pulsar has a different frequency, they can be used in a navigation system like beacons, as well as in timing. For space navigation, detectors in X-ray are preferred due to the reduced size of the associateddetectors, even though detectors in the visual range could also be used. On ground, RF detectors are preferred due to the strong absorption of X-rays in the atmosphere. Nevertheless, very large RF telescopes are needed, which in principle makes them not suitable for practical applications. Therefore, this activity will look into reducing the size of antennas for Pulsar Navigation, looking at uses cases where it could be applied (large vessels, military ships). A prototype shall be manufactured and used in measurements with real Pulsar data, demonstrating the recovery of Pulsar pulses with adequate SNR.Read more.
