Description:
It is urgently necessary to list existing knowledge about the effects of mowing management in grasslands on invertebrates, to deepen with additional research and translate them into action perspective for site managers and managers of the public space. This must take into account region -specific variation that is present in grassland systems and types. In addition, there have been various technical innovations of mowers on the market in recent years. These machines have not yet been tested for their ecological effectiveness. In this study, a few (14) innovative mowers are tested in terms of ecological effectiveness. It is recommended to make use of the test protocol that the Vlinderstichting has developed for this for Color Keur: the insect test and the cutter test (requestable at the Vlinderstichting), based on insights from Humbert et al. 2010, among others.
