• Description:
• The Main Station of Groningen is the busiest public transport tub in the Northern Netherlands. Almost all public transport trips to and from various destinations in the city, the region and even nationwide start, end or pass here. The station is currently undergoing a major metamorphosis in which platforms and tracesbe adjusted, a new pedestrians and cyclist tunnel will be installed and a new station infection on the south side is being realized. The Groningen Spoorzone project ensures that the main station is ready for the future on the south side of the station is the existing a few years agoBuildings demolished to make way for the new Stadkwartier. This neighborhood will present itself as a green and sustainable city district with a mixed program of living, working and relaxing. The heart of the Spoorkwartier is formed by the Zuidplein, that the south entrance of theHoofdstation, Parkweg and the Rivierenbuurt connect each other. This square will form a new connection for cyclists and pedestrians between the station and the city center on the one hand, and the Parkweg, Rivierenbuurt and the Stadspark on the other. Mid 2026, the current contractor of the main station willDeliver station tunnel for pedestrians and cyclists, the bicycle shed and the south facade of the station. Immediately afterwards the municipality wants to use the public space between the station and Parkweg. This space must not only properly settle the traffic flows, but also meet theAmbitious standard that fits with the new station and future developments in the Spoorkwartier. At that time it is not yet known what the other parts of the Spoorkwartier will look like. The connection to the building volumes to be developed comes at a later stage, but will already be thought outmust be.
