These containers are used for the safe storage (and in some cases loading and unloading) of lithium batteries.
Lithium batteries are becoming increasingly popular within Defense more commonly used due to their high energy density and long lifespan. However, this also entails specific safety risks. Incorrect use or damage can cause a so-called thermal runaway: a chemical chain reaction in which a lot of heat is released, which can lead to release of toxic gases, risk of explosion and even self-ignition of the battery.
This standard is further elaborated in the Schedule of Requirements (PoR). In this market consultation these facilities are referred to as "containers".
