• Description:
• The laboratory of the Department of Internal Medicine specializes in research into inflammation. To test hypotheses, patient materials, such as plasma, serum and supernatants, are collected and analyzed in clinical studies. To To obtain statistically relevant data, these studies typically include large cohorts of patients and controls (ranging from 100 to 1,000 subjects). Generic methods are often used for these analyses, such as sandwich ELISAs. This techniques are particularly suitable when it is known in advance which cytokines should be measured and whether they are increased or decreased in patient samples compared to healthy controls. Moreover, these methods are relatively time-intensive and labor intensive. The Department of Internal Medicine wants to measure large numbers of biomarkers or proteins from small amounts of body material (for example 1-4 µl). The aim is to identify unknown biomarkers that contribute to understanding disease processes and possibly new therapeutic targets. In addition, they want to have the option to perform pathway analyzes afterwards, so that biological processes can be better mapped. This can be done via targeted panels or via completely untargeted panels.
