Description: To prevent driving wire break due to excessive wear, a good measurement of the riding thickness is essential. With these measurement data, ProRail can create accurate replacement plans to prevent driving wire fractures and thus large faults. The overhead line on the open track is already measured by a measuring train, but ProRail was looking for a solution for the Emplacements. In a collaboration project between TNO and ProRail, a system has been developed for accurate measurements on the Emplacements. This driving thickness measuring system has given the name 'Bton' (Better Thickness Measurement Overhead Wires in The Netherlands). ProRail wants to investigate the possibilities to use the BTON.
