Description:
The subject of this market consultation is related to Strategic Goal I: "Reverse the trend of coral reef degradation to create healthy, resilient and resilient coral reefs that safeguard the well-being of the Caribbean Netherlands." Eutrophication is a particular threat on Bonaire voor the coral reefs in the
waters around the island1
. This is mainly caused by the influx of nutrient-rich groundwater from land to sea. The enrichment of the groundwater on the island comes from various sources: leaking septic tanks, insufficiently treated wastewater (in areaand with many tourists) and feces of stray cattle. Due to the high dilution and absorption capacity of seawater for these nutrients, it is difficult and costly to establish trends in eutrophication indicators. Preference is therefore given to measuring the nutrient input fromthe groundwater to the sea. Groundwater monitoring networks are used for this purpose.
