Description:
This market consultation seeks to outline the requirements for a Fibre Optic Cable Measurement System for TenneT-s 2GW Program, encompassing newly constructed cable connections and retrofitting existing connections, both onshore and offshore. The 2GW Program aims to develop at least 14 high-voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore grid connection systems, each with a transmission capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW), in the Dutch and German North Sea by 2031. This initiative will play a crucial role in advancing the offshore wind energy and climate targets of the Netherlands, Germany, and Europe. Upon completion, the program will supply green wind energy to up to 35 million households, delivering a total capacity of 28 GW. This includes an anticipated 18 GW by 2030, covering 30% of the EU-s offshore expansion targets for 2030 and reducing environmental impacts by up to 50% through enhanced transmission capacity per system. In response to the energy transition, new connections are planned for the onshore grid, and existing connections will face higher loads. Monitoring these connections is crucial for gaining better insights into the performance of both new and existing cables. We invite participants with expertise in Fiber Optic Measurement, Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS), Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), and/or software services for these monitoring systems to share their insights on the technical feasibility of such a Measurement System.
