- Tenders are invited for High Speed Disruptive Tolerant Networking Node for Direct-to-Earth Links (Artes at 6b.095) (Re-Issue of 1-11211) The objective of this activity is to develop and test a prototype of a Disruptive Tolerant Network (DTN) software node for the ground segment for usage in end-to-end data communication architectures, to support high speed Direct-to-Earth space links with bitrates up to 10Gbit/s. The DTN node shall be adaptable to state of art high speed modems and monitoring and control architectures.Targeted Improvements: Enable disruptive tolerant network nodes with data rates an order of magnitude higher than existing today.Description:Disruptive Tolerant Network (DTN) standards offer automatic routing of data and reliable data transfer for networks operating over unreliable and disrupted links.That is very attractive in the context of end-to-end communication architectures involving Direct-to-Earth (DTE) satellite communication over links at data rates up to 10Gbit/s. These links are subject to adverse weather conditions potentially causing data loss; in some cases the ad-hoc use of alternative ground station may be required. Today DTN data rates of up to about 1 Gbit/sec have been achieved in laboratory environment in ESA Member States and no DTN software node operating at10Gbit/s exists. Preliminary investigations shows that software implementations operating at these high data rates are feasible.This activity will design, develop and test a DTN node software, operating in the ground networks at high rates up to 10Gbit/s. To allow integration of the DTN node software into generic ground networks, the design shall foresee an easy adaptation to available and upcoming state of the art modems. Moreover, the DTN shall be adaptable to the network operators' specific monitoring and control architectures.Read more
