- The wind turbines at sea cause bird mortality times the peak moment of Trek. By stopping wind turbines at sea when a large bird migration is expected, the number of bird victims is reduced. With this goal, the StartStop project has been created. Due to the energy market, it must be clear 48 hours in advance whether large bird migration is expected. To this end, the University of Amsterdam has drawn up a prediction model for bird migration. However, only data could be collected for this model for a short period. To make sure that windmills are not unnecessarily stopped, an expert team is also created that predictions for preventing peak moments of Trek will set up. The expert team is set as an extra guarantee for predicting migratory peaks in the spring and in the fall above the North Sea.
