- In 2020 and 2021, energy prices in the Netherlands increased considerably due to, among other things, the consequences of the Covid Crisis and the Ukraine War. This created a large increase in households in the Netherlands that had to deal with energy poverty. The central government (Ministry of the Interior) responded in 2022 and 2023 to this extreme increase by making a specific benefit to all municipalities available (the so -called "Spuksgidie) for combating energy poverty. The contracting authority has also received such a subsidy. The requirements that the Ministry sets for the good spending and justification for the subsidy amount obtained are closely related to the requirements set by the contracting authority to implement energy saving measures for households related to energy poverty.
