- In 2020 and 2021, energy prices in the Netherlands rose sharply due to, among other things, the consequences of the Covid crisis and the Ukraine war. This led to a large increase in households in the Netherlands that were faced with energy poverty. The National Government (Ministry of the Interior) reresponded to this extreme increase in 2022 and 2023 by making a specific benefit available to all municipalities (the so-called 'SPUK subsidy) to combat energy poverty. The contracting authority has also received such a subsidy.
