  • Tenders are invited for Energy Efficient De-Icing System for Antenna Gateways (Artes 4.0 at 6b.121) - re_issue Objective: The objective of the activity is to trade-off alternative, energy efficient and low carbon footprint heating technologies for use in gateway Earth stations, and to design and develop a de-icing system prototype. The focus and the main benefits are expected for higher frequency antennas (e.g Ka, Q/V, W band). Targeted Improvements: 50% reduction of energy consumptionDescription: Incold environments, snow, frost, or ice can cause link degradation to Earth station satellite antennas. To avoid the above-mentionedproblems, de-icing systems have been employed by antenna manufacturers and integrators. However, these systems are often power-hungry contributing to the high energy consumption of the ground station. Infrared based de-icing systems or heat pump-based ones could significantly reduce the energy consumption.This activity will trade-off alternative, energy efficient and low carbon footprint heating technologies for use on satellite gateway Earth stations. A de-icing system prototype will be designed and manufactured. The focus and the main benefits are expected for higher frequency antennas (e.g. Ka, Q/V, W band). The de-icing system shall be demonstrated on a test antenna in a representative environment.Read more
