Description: Contracting authority - Academic Medical Center The Academic Medical Center (AMC) is one of the eight university medical centers in the Netherlands and is counted on the international summit in the field of academic medicine. As a university medical center, the AMC has three main tasks. The treatment of patients is paramount. In addition, a lot of medical scientific research is carried out in the AMC. Third main task is to provide medical education. The AMC was created in 1983. Then two hospitals from Amsterdam's city center, the Wilhelmina Gasthuis and the Innergasthuis, under one roof with the Medicine Faculty of the University of Amsterdam. This became the AMC the first Dutch University Medical Center. In 1988, the Emma children's hospital was part of the new university hospital. In the strategic objectives, the AMC has clearly formulated ambitions in the field of research, education, and patient care. Those ambitions are unchanged high.
