• The non-native crayfish is an invasive species that has rapidly increased in and around Dutch waters in recent decades. Non-native crayfish have a negative impact on the aquatic ecosystem, partly because they... cutting vegetation and stirring up soils and banks of soft substrate. This results in disruption of the ecological balance: aquatic plants disappear, the water becomes cloudy, making it difficult for the plants to recover. Achieving the WFD targets (Water Framework Directive) is hampered by this. As an invasive exotic species, the species of exotic crayfish that occur in the Netherlands have few predators, which means that the size of these species has increased rapidly and is still growing. On an ad hoc basis observations in the management area, it is clear that the exotic crayfish has now spread throughout the entire AGV management area. However, with the exception of a few individual water bodies, no regular monitoring has yet taken place before 2025 the AGV management area to confirm this assumption. Due to this lack of consistent monitoring, there is very limited insight into the abundance of non-native crayfish within the management area of ​​the AGV water board.
