  • Description:
  • Tenders are invited for Assessing the Livelihoods of Smallholder Cotton Farmers, and Explore Market Opportunities for Diversified Income. A) Assess the current alternative income sources (other than lint cotton) and food security levels of the cotton growing households in Southern Chad. This includes an analysis of the both on-farm and off-farm income generating activities. Assessment of the food security situation will cover the four main dimensions of food security: availability, accessibility, use and resilience. B) Assess potential alternative income sources for increasing and stabilising net farm income levels and improving household food security. This includes an analysis of the potential income from other farm activities (crops grown as part of the cotton-based farming systems), based on gross margin calculations of those alternative crops, a review of the crops- suitability as a rotational crop, and the identification of available market links (off-takers and other agri-businesses that could provide inputs and services). The assignment will require field-level data collection: qualitative and quantitative data through a farmer survey (individual interview as well as focus group discussions). It will also need interactions with the project partner (CTSN) and private sector companies in other value chains. This will be complemented by market research to capture the potential income generation from other non-cotton produce (such as sesame, peanuts, maize, cowpea, millet, sorghum), and also its existing and possible market linkages (middlemen, off takers, traders, processors, etc.). The proposal must at least include: a. Description of the objectives of the assignment, as well as a succinct approach which addresses how the proposal matches the requirements. b. Description of activities that are part of the assignment. c. List and specify (quality criteria) the deliverables (e.g. reports, events, etc.). d. Activity- or deliverable-based budget in EUR, including VAT and/or other taxes when these are applicable. e. Description of the team of consultant(s) that will perform the assignment, including a CV or short paragraph describing seniority and experience. f. Timeline of the assignment, including timing of the activities and deadlines for the deliverables. g. Maximum of three client references and/or a sample of previous work relevant to the deliverables in this ToR. h. An overview of the project team, including the CVs of the project team members i. Budget presented in Euros (ex VAT) with a break-down of days/rate per project team member j. Description of safeguarding approach1 (does the consultant have a safeguarding policy in place, and if not, are they able and committed to comply to and implement IDH-s safeguarding policy (to be found here); steps (to be) taken to identify risks in relation to safeguarding in the project at hand and description of approach to mitigate these safeguarding risks (if any))] k. Statement on Ground for exclusion (see section 6 below). Deadline: 25 Mar 2022.
