Part of the SCAN program consists of carrying out a number of 'scientific' drillings. The purpose of the drilling is to collect data. These data form an important addition to the knowledge that is already being collected by means of seismic surveys and herbdata processing. With the drilling, measurements can be made to determine the suitability of the intended aquifers for geothermal energy. This additional information is necessary to get a better picture of the subsurface for the future application of geothermal heat.
