- In October 2022 a leak was discovered in the east tube of the Westerscheldetunnel. In December 2022 - after removal of the heat -resistant upholstery, it was established that there was cracking in the concrete construction of the tunnel (in the first 30 meters, viewed from the north side). The tear is on the bottom of tunnel roof. It is a hidden defect. The cracking must be restored. In view of the urgency and the knowledge required for the investigation, research has been conducted into the nature and extent of the damage and the recovery options. The proposed recovery method provides for the installation of a construction (inliner) to the tunnel wall, which takes over the structural function of the existing tunnellining. NV WST intends to instruct the crack to WM, by means of a request for amendment (vtw) within the existing maintenance contract.
