  • Description:
  • Tenders are invited for Air Interface for Feeder Links of Regenerative Multi-Gigabit Satellite Systems (artes 4.0 at 3 C.037). The objective of the activity is to develop and test uplink and downlink air interfaces for the feeder link of regenerative multi-gigabit throughput satellite systems. Geostationary and non-geostationary systems will be considered. Goal is to reduce the number ofrequired gateways by maximising the feeder link s spectral efficiency while minimising the impact on payload resources and implementation complexity. The air interfaces will be implemented into a software testbed to fully evaluate the performance improvement. Targeted Improvements:-Reduction by 50% the number of gateways required for regenerative multi-Gbps geostationary and non-geostationary satellite systems.Description: One of the main advantages of regenerative satellites is their capability to decouple the feeder from the user link which allows them to exploit the significantly higher signal to noise ratio between the satellite and the gateways to achieve higher spectral efficiencies and thus higher throughput. In other words, a gateway can uplink and downlink more information to/from a regenerative satellite than to/from a transparent one which translates into a significant reduction of the number of gateways required by the regenerative system for a given system capacity. However, regenerative satellites rely on an on-board processor whose mass and power requirements depend on the capacity they need to process which is prohibitive for Very High Throughput Systems (VHTS) who cannot embark them and thus pay a penalty in terms of a larger number of gateways that hinders their competitiveness. New air interface solutions specifically designed to maximise the throughput of the feeder links while minimising their footprint on board a regenerative payload would unlock a key capability for the future of VHTS systems. To address this issue, the activity will develop specific air interface solutions for the feeder link of high throughput regenerative payloads with the aim of minimising the mass and power requirements of the on-board processor. Frequency plans and high energy-efficient solutions will be traded off to identify the impact on the on-board processor and the sizing of the ground segment. On the protocol side, very low-power and high-rate coding schemes will be examined together with very high modulation orders for increased throughput. The activity will implement a software testbed to evaluate the performance of the associated digital blocks (modulators/demodulators, coders/decoders)and payload critical elements. With this information, the activity will determine the impact of the new waveforms to the overall system, especially to the sizing of the feeder ground segment and the payload. Price Range: 500 KEURO. Open Date: 04/10/2023 07:28 CET Closing Date: 19/01/2024 13:00 CET
