  • Description:
  • Tenders are invited for Ad Hoc Vehicle to Vehicle Mesh Network for Improved Satellite Throughput (Artes 4.0 at 6b.117). The objective of the activity is to design, develop, manufacture, test and demonstrate an ad hoc ground based network system whereby nearby cars pool resources to improve satcom throughput. Cars within a terrestrial radio range of a nearby car can be used to achieve higher throughput over satcom when they are not transmitting or receiving themselves, thus creating a mesh network between local cars. Cars form ad-hoc local networks connecting and disconnecting as they join and leave the same route. Targeted Improvements:100% throughput increase compared to a single link on average. Description: Vehicle-to-vehicle communications (V2V) are part of the vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication networks and are expected to be a key element of fully connected cars. Satellite connectivity is expected to play an important role as a key enabler for connected car services, especially in areas with limited connectivity. In order to increase data rates offered to the users, this activity will develop and demonstrate an intelligent dynamic mesh V2V network system of pooling and sharing resources between nearby cars so that the required data rate can be offered to all cars connected to the network irrespectively of the satellite connectivity status. For example, when playing music, it is common that the whole track is downloaded rapidly and then there is no traffic until the next is requested. This time can be used to serve other local cars, creating a bandwidth pool, thus improving availability and performance of the service offered. Cars within range of a terrestrial radio of another car can be used to achieve higher throughput over satellite links when they are not transmitting or receiving creating a mesh network between local cars. Cars form ad-hoc local networks by connecting and disconnecting as they join and leave the same route. This requires dynamic routing algorithms to be developed. Output of the activity will be the routing software and a hardware prototype system to be demonstrated in a network of at least 3 vehicles. Procurement Policy: C(2) = A relevant participation (in terms of quality and quantity) of non-primes (incl. SMEs) is required.
